This is by far my favorite breakfast to make! I don't always have the wheat germ so I don't always use that but when I do I really love the flavor it adds. I usually make my normal old fashioned oats and then add the butter, banana, and brown sugar. It is so quick and filling. My husband enjoyed it, too.

This is a great go to breakfast. Instead of water, I used one cup of water, and 2 1/2 cups of unsweetened almond milk. I cut it down because a lot of people felt the oatmeal was too runny. It seemed to work. I also added a little nutmeg, and topped my 16 year old son's with a little half and half and walnuts, he needs the calories, he swims 2 hours 6 days a week. It is a good base recipe to make berries and cream oatmeal, or apple and cinnamon as well. For apple and cinnamon I grate an apple (skin and all) into the almond milk first, let it come to a boil, then add the oats, cinnamon, a lttle clove and nutmeg. I top it with walnuts, raisins, and brown sugar. If my son feels like maple and brown sugar, I add walnuts, raisins, and top it with some maple flavored agave, or real maple syrup and brown sugar. It helps to make the oatmeal on Sunday without spices, and add the flavor to bowl before placing in microwave, I add a little almond milk as well prior to heating. Yummy!

As an athlete, this is one of my favorite breakfast recipes. It's very filling, great natural energy for training and racing, and tastes great! Highly recommended, it's my secret weapon now. :)

This was delish and very satisfying. I added a touch more brown sugar than the recipe called for, and I wish it was scaled for 2 servings instead of 3, but both my husband and I loved it. Plus it was so fast! I can even make this before work!

Loved this recipe. The topping is great. The oatmeal really tastes home made, and is light years ahead of the nasty little packets!

My husband and I really enjoyed this recipe as is, which was almost too simple to make! If you are in a hurry, use the quick oats, but next time I would make this very same dish using steel cut oats, which are much chewier and heartier. I would cook the steel cut oats until just about done, add the wheat germ and finish cooking. Then proceed with the rest of the recipe as stated. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll bet it takes an already outstanding recipe to even higher levels.

Great for an easy breakfast. I usually just make oatmeal so this recipe is a nice way to mix it up. Will definitiesly make in the future. I also added some cinnamon and blueberries (skipped the butter and sugar) which were excellent.

I really enjoyed this dish. My kids do not like bananas in their oatmeal so I substituted apples and cinnamon. I also mixed in the butter and sugar instead of putting on them top. The recipe is a great base and that you can experiment with different add ins.

I really liked this. I love oats anyway, but the wheat germ added an extra dimension of texture and a nutty, slightly sweet flavor. I used organic rolled oats and 3 c. 1% milk (I don't cook oatmeal in water - yeacchh), microwaved it on High power for 81/2 minutes, and let it sit for a few. The consistency was thick but not dry, but I might serve it with a bit more milk next time. We skipped the banana and just ate it with a bit of butter and granulated honey, although I could have eaten it plain. I dished myself and my husband our usual amounts but it was so filling my husband couldn't finish his. I will defiinitely make this again, perhaps with nuts or dried fruit next time.

Made this this morning for breakfast. Accidentally omitted the salt--will definitely make sure to add it next time! I only made one serving and prepared the oatmeal the way I normally do, using skim milk instead of water and popping it in the microwave. Mixed in two tablespoons of toasted wheat germ as well before cooking, then put in the butter, brown sugar, and banana. Will add this into my at-work breakfast rotation.

I followed this recipe exactly and really liked the consistancy of the oatmeal. Maybe the consistancy was off for others because of the type of oats used? I used organic bulk oats. This is a recipe that I would make for health concious company, so I rated it 4 stars.

I agree with some of the other folks, the water levels seemed way off. I followed the package directions on the rolled oats and when added and extra 1/4 cup of water, that seemed to help. The oatmeal had nice flavor but the mushy oatmeal and mushy banana's really need something crunchy in there. I would probably add pecans next time.

The water to oats ratio seems to be off. I made this with less water and it was good. The banana and brown sugar were delicious. I added the wheat germ and you wouldn't even know it was in the oatmeal. My husband really loved it! On the box of oatmeal it calls for 1 3/4 cups of water for 1 cup of oatmeal and as I was measuring out the water it seemed like way too much. I just made the oatmeal as on the box and added the wheat germ then thinned it out with a little warm water at the end. My husband used some skim milk.

I am a big fan of cream of wheat and this was along those lines. It really filled me up and gave me great energy. It would be something I would serve for others but for myself it's a keeper. I don't think I'll use the butter next time - didn't taste it and I get plenty of fat throughout the day :)

I loved the banana, butter, brown sugar topping. It never occured to me to put bananas on oatmeal, but I liked it. The oatmeal was the worst I've ever eaten. It was slimy & gloppy, just disguisting. The only thing I did different, by mistake really, was to use ground flax seed instead of wheat germ. I liked the nutty flavor. I will continue to use this topping combination, but will make oatmeal my way.
