Funeral services for William C. Witt, 85, of Edina, will be held at 10:30 Wednesday morning (October 10, 1984) in Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel, Edina. The Rev. Luke Turnough (sic) of Edina will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Fred Kinsel, soloist and Bessie Hudson, organist. Burial will be in Linville cemetery at Edina.
Mr. Witt died at 1:24 Sunday afternoon (October 7, 1984) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
Born Septemer 3, 1899 at East Moline, Illinois, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Aurand. On September 18, 1918 at New Lisbon, Wisconsin, he married Jessie Eversen who survives. Also surviving are one son, Jack A. Witt of Galesburg, Illinois; one half-sister; granddaughter, Mrs. Tom (Sandra Lou Witt) Wittle and other relatives, including a cousin, Mrs. James (Kristi) Ruzlow of Quincy, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his adopted parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Witt, Sr.; three brothers; one half-brother and two sisters.
Mr. Witt was a graduate of the Necedah, Wisconsin, High School and the Marquette University at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During his earlier years, Mr. Will was a heavy equipment operator in the Quincy, Illinois area. In 1937 he and his family moved to Edina where Mr. Witt owned and operated the Gamble Store for over 45 years. In 1944 Mr. Witt became a Ford Tractor and Equipment dealer and continued in that business in Edina until his retirement in 1983.
During World War I, Mr. Witt served with the United States Army.
He was a member of the Edina United Methodist Church and the Cyril Graham American Legion Post No. 258 of Edina.
Bearers will be: J. J. Hayes, Harold McKay, Stanley Sharp, Robert Cahalan, Charles McCarty and Dudley Gillaspy.
