  1. Goodbye

    FT: Italy 20-34 Ireland

It is three from three for Ireland just what Andy Farrell would have asked for and they showed real character to keep such an exciting Italy team at bay.

For Italy this looks to be the start of a special era and they showed up against the best side in the world. However it was not a repeat of the famous day in 2013.

    Chris Henry

Former Ireland flanker on BBC Radio Radio Ulster

From my perspective, if you're looking at individual performances, I think Ross Byrne was a big positive today, that we got the result with him in a high pressure game. He wasn't perfect in the first half in regards to his decision making but he had some lovely kicks, he controlled the team, he managed the team, ultimately to get a win whenever they didn't play well.

  3. 'It was a difficult half for Ireland'

    Claire Small

Ireland international on BBC Radio Ulster

I did feel that Ireland would come through and they did. They had to go through 18 phases to get the Mack Hansen try but they were really patient and they were able to just throw the ball about.

It was a difficult half for Ireland, they spent a lot of it trying things and I think they will have a lot to work on. I think Andy Farrell will be slightly disappointed with the overall performance but obviously there were a lot of changes coming into this match and I think overall he will be happy that players are getting game time.

  5. 'Ireland are on for a Grand Slam'

That's massive! We knew coming into this game that Ireland are on for a Grand Slam and they've kept those hopes alive.

I suppose we didn't think it as going to be quite so difficult and competitive, Italy have shown that they're quite difficult to break down. I think they will be relieved after finishing the match but I suppose that's job done and bonus point in the bag.

  6. 'Our discipline needs to be better'

    FT: Italy 20-34 Ireland

Bundee Aki, speaking to ITV Sport: "It was a mixed bag. We did some really good stuff and also did the total opposite. That is just a credit to Italy, we knew it was going to be a tough game. They are a proud nation.

"Italy have always been a good team and played with a lot of passion, you can see the way they want to play the game with expansive rugby, running it from their own try line. We just fell off a bit. Our overall performance needs to be better and our discipline needs to be better, I was one of those whose discipline wasn't good enough."

  7. 'I'm really excited by Italy'

    Tony Ward

Former Ireland fly-half on BBC Radio Ulster

A really tremendous Italian performance, I don't say that in any patronising way at all. I'm really excited by what I see from Italy for the first time in 20 odd years.

  8. Full-time

    FT: Italy 20-34 Ireland

James Lowe intercepts the ball and races to the line but a try saving tackle is made by Luca Morisi, which sums up Italy's attitude.

Operation Grand Slam is still on.

  9. Substitution - Ireland

    Italy 20-34 Ireland

Another Six Nations debut as Jimmy O'Brien is on.

  10. Substitution - Ireland

    Italy 20-34 Ireland

Jack Crowley is on for his Six Nations debut, Ross Byrne departs to big applause.

  11. 'Every question has been asked of Ireland'

    Tony Ward

This might sound a silly assessment of that but that's one of the best Ireland tries given its context.

The right tactics after almost conceding, and what Ireland have done is they have controlled the ball, they have been patient. They've been sucking the energy out of Italy and the crowd as well and in the end Hansen breaking through on the back of it and scoring under the posts and that should be it but every question is being asked of his Irish side.

  12. Post update

    Italy 20-34 Ireland

A knock-on for Italy as Ireland slow down the game as Mack Hansen is awarded the man of the match award. I hyped up the Conor Murray assist but his finish was excellent, such a consistent performer.

  13. Italy still attacking

    Italy 20-34 Ireland

Italy aren't giving up just yet as they continue to attack from everywhere and find themselves deep inside the Ireland 22.. again!

  14. Converted try - Italy 20-34 Ireland

    Mack Hansen

    That is surely the winner!

A big moment from Conor Murray as he challenges Italy around the fringes of the ruck before offloading to Mack Hansen who stepped the final defender to go under the posts.

Credit to Andy Farrell that substitution was the difference. You can't buy experience and Murray has over 100 caps of it.

  15. 'This is a huge test of leadership'

    Italy 20-27 Ireland

Reaction after Hansen try seals Ireland win over dogged Italy (8)

    Jim Neilly

    BBC Radio Ulster commentator

All the pressure now is on Anndy Farrell's men. This is a huge test of the captaincy and leadership of James Ryan, who is leading his country for the seventh time today.

  16. Post update

    Italy 20-27 Ireland

10 minutes to go and Ross Byrne is still on the pitch, this shows how much Andy Farrell rates him.

  17. Post update

    Italy 20-27 Ireland

Italy so close to a try as Giovanni Pettinelli comes within inches of the line. A cross-field kick then goes dead, maybe too eager there from the Italians.

This one is FAR from over.

  18. Substitution - Ireland

    Italy 20-27 Ireland

Conor Murray replaces Craig Casey, time for an experienced head?

  19. 'Ireland under pressure'

    Italy 20-27 Ireland

Reaction after Hansen try seals Ireland win over dogged Italy (9)

    Tony Ward

Former Ireland fly-half on BBC Radio Ulster

Ireland are under pressure at the moment, there is no question about that. You can see it on Andy Farrell's face, you can see the anxiety.
